Your logo may not be the problem.

Your business isn’t booking the volume or type of clients you want to be booking. You’re not closing the projects you dream of doing. What’s the problem?

A lot of people immediately gravitate to blaming their logo. They think they need a new or updated high-quality logo that better communicates their brand identity.

Only problem? Your brand is a lot more than a logo.

If your logo isn’t the problem…what is?

We work with many clients who think they need a cool new custom logo to solve their problems or improve their sales. While a custom logo is an essential component of your overall branding, it’s not what’s going to make or break your success.

Your brand is how people feel about your business.

If you try to fix your problems with a new logo, logo color, or website design without taking a careful, deeper look at your overall brand’s personality, values, colors, shapes, and voice… you’re just putting a pretty bandaid on a much larger problem.

Your customers are your brand. That doesn’t mean they see your brand the way you want them to, but they determine your brand with their opinions, perceptions, and beliefs about your company.

That’s why, at Powell Creative, we like to get to the core of your brand before we ever work on a single design element.

  • How do people see your company right now?

  • How is that different from how you’d like them to see your company?

  • What are your company’s core values? Are you doing a good job communicating those to the public?

These are the kind of questions we start with so we can understand the actual problem. Once we have a clear vision of who your company is, what you value and prioritize, and how you want others to perceive you – then we can create visual branding magic.

How to move past logo design

The logo is an easy target: small, prominent, and easy to change.

But once you realize your logo isn’t your brand, you’ll probably see that you need to start telling a better story. A story your target clients want to hear and can connect with. And eventually, once you’ve created a compelling brand story, then you can make sure you have a logo that reflects that brand story.

But we start with the story, not the design.

You’ve got to find out what makes your customers happy and reflect that back to them in your brand’s story.

At the end of the day, a logo can’t tell your story. Whether it’s on your business cards, social media, or letterhead, logos are so much bigger than that – and it won’t make or break your success.

We know that truly effective, powerful branding starts with a story that connects with your customers and helps them feel seen, understood, and happy.
